For two consecutive years, the District experienced significant decreases on crime across the city. Throughout 2017, crime continued to decrease in Washington, DC, with a 22 percent reduction in violent crime, a nine percent on percent in property crime, and an 11 percent decrease in total crime. Since 2014, violent crime in the District has decreased by 28 percent, property crime has decreased by 11 percent, and total crime has decreased by 14 percent.
Since the implementation of the Robbery Intervention Task Force, robberies have decreased across all police districts. Year to date, the District has experienced a 27 percent reduction in robberies and since the end of 2014, robberies have decreased by 33 percent, including decreases in all eight wards.
